Week 2: Bus Passes & File Boxes

This week was our first field trip.  We headed down to the Tacoma Dome Transit Center so everyone could purchase their Orca Cards for riding the bus.

Along the way, we observed a man with a long stick with a big chunk of white chalk on the end of it.  We talked about "Meter Maids" and how he was marking the tires of the vehicles with the chalk.  Then explained that when he comes back in two hours (the parking limit), he would know which vehicles had parked for too long and would need a parking citation.

When we found the customer counter to purchase the Orca Cards, we discovered that the students needed to have identification that included their birth date in order to purchase the STUDENT Orca Cards.  So, we will be going back next week to try again.  :-)

On the way back to FILA, we discussed what you should do if you're in a car accident.

Back in class, we learned about keeping personal files and everyone assembled their own file box.

HOMEWORK:
  • Find your Social Security Card -- look it over and become familiar with it.  (Don't put it in your file box.  You can do that after you're done with the class and you are no longer traveling with your box each week.)
  • Find your Birth Certificate -- look it over and become familiar with it.  (You can put a copy in your file box if Mom says it's okay, but don't put the original in there until you are no longer traveling with your box each week.)
  • Bring some form of ID next week so we can get your bus pass.  It needs to have your birthdate on it.  Driver's Permit/License, Passport, or Birth Certificate will work.
See you next week!
